Scripture Reflection – Most Holy Trinity (10-11th of June)

This weekend we celebrate the central dogma of our faith: “[Father] We joyfully proclaim our faith in the mystery of your Godhead.  You have revealed your glory as the glory also of your Son and of the Holy Spirit: three persons equal in majesty, undivided in splendour, yet one Lord, one God, ever to be adored in your everlasting glory.” Preface 43 The Sacramentary 1974

In the Gospel, we are told that “God gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish, but may have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

When we put these two remarkable texts together they invite us into the life of the Father with the Son through their Holy Spirit.  In other words, we are invited to share in the intimacy of the Trinity.  Love is the facility for our response to the Trinity’s invitation.  St Paul reminds us to live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with us.

Therefore, the way that we live with each other, through love and peace, are the ways that we accept the invitation God offers us to live in intimacy.
